Housing tech giant Moladi to showcase at World Design Capital 2014
Moladi, South Africa’s housing technology giant, has been invited to showcase its pieces of work at the World Design Capital 2014 to be held in Cape Town, the company announced last week.
The Design Indaba will feature Moladi in a large exhibition called ‘Africa is Now’, taking place from 28 February to 2 March. Design Indaba Expo is said to be the largest design/innovation event in the Southern Hemisphere, attracting close to 50 000 local and international visitors. This includes 500 buyers from South Africa, Africa and around the world.
Major media partners such as Sunday Times, Mail & Guardian, e.tv, Wallpaper magazine and dezeen.com will also be there, as well as government officials, dignitaries, entrepreneurs and creative small business owners from South Africa, Africa and beyond.
“We are very excited and proud to have been invited to showcase Moladi innovative building technology at this prestigious event,” Moladi CEO Hennie Botes said in a statement.
Award-winning Moladi is known the world over for using technology – including reusable plastic formwork – to build quality affordable houses in a short period of time to help the urban poor put a decent roof over their heads.
Every day, people move to African cities, looking for work and better life, thus driving the continent to experience the world’s highest urbanisation rate.
This massive exodus process has led to a serious housing crisis in Africa’s urban areas, and is sometimes fuelling unsocial unrest.
